CIFABROODTM
Technology Details
To address this inherent problem in seed production an urgent need was felt to scientifically develop a brood stock feed suitable for Indian major carps. Generally, in oviparous carps the embryonic development is completely dependent on the stored energy provided in the eggs following fertilization and the nutrient necessary for this is transferred from female brood during egg formation. Indian carps were confirmed to utilize lipids rather than protein for their embryonic development. Since millions of eggs mature simultaneously and derive all the essential nutrients from the brood mother, there is always chance of deficiency in one or other component either due to lack in mother’s diet or due to malnutrition. Therefore, adequate nutrient source through exogenous diet containing indispensable amino acids (IAA), long-chain fatty acids (PUFAs), selected vitamins and trace elements must be provided to the brood prior to maturation in such a way that voluntary dietary intake becomes optimum. ICAR-CIFA for the first time in India has developed a balanced feed for carp brood after a decade of research duly validated through repeated field trials throughout the country. It is made of routine feed ingredients, readily accepted by carp broods, palatable and water stable. Adequately nutrient rich, provides essential nutrients lacking in conventional feed or natural fish food organism. Advances gonad growth and maturation and facilitates early breeding in March-April. Improves spawning response and ensures higher production of viable gametes. Remarkably improves hatching and spawn recovery. Promises better quality of seed, higher survival and rapid growth during nursery rearing. Enhances spent fish recovery and suitable for repeat breeding of carps with stable spawn production may be required during unforeseen climatic condition or pandemic situation. Demonstrated efficacy for maturation and breeding of IMCs during North East Monsoon even in December-January in Tamil Nadu. Highly economic, increases productivity of the female brood stock by 147% and reduces cost of spawn production by 40%.

Nursery Feed for Carp (CIFA CARP STARTER)
Technology Details
Nursery phase is one of most critical phases in the production of stockable seed materials in carp culture. Generally, it is observed that the recovery of spawn to fry and fry to fingerling is low (25-30% and 40-50%, respectively in farmers’ practice). To address this problem, ICARCIFA, Bhubaneswar has developed a carp nursery feed which ensures over 80% survival, better growth and uniform sized fingerling production. This feed is highly nutritious and palatable. The feed is suitable for carp seed growers to enhance their production and profitability.

Floating Feed for Carp Grower (CIFA CARP GROWER)
Technology Details
Carp grower phase is one of most important phase for production of marketable fish in carp culture. Generally, it is observed that the profit by using commercial/handmade feed in grow out culture is very minimum and taste of the fish is also not up to satisfaction of customers. The fish may not be healthy by using commercial feed. To address this problem, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar has developed a carp grower feed which ensures better growth, improved FCR, higher palatability to fish, disease resistance and tastier fish. This is suitable for carp growers to enhance their production and profitability.

Zinc-Selenium Nanoplus for Fish Feed
Technology Details
In freshwater aquaculture, there is an utmost need for alternative source of feed supplements which will provide better growth, improved immunity and disease resistance. In this regard, several on farm and off farm studies was being conducted to assess the effects of dietary supplementation of zinc oxide (ZnO) and selenium (Se) nanoparticles (NPs) on growth, immunological and enzymatic profiles in rohu, Labeo rohita. Fishes (Labeo rohita) were fed with basal diet incorporated with synthesized zinc oxide and Selenium nanoparticles showed increase in growth and non-specific immunity and enzymatic parameters. Challenged study with virulent bacterial strain Aeromonas hydrophila showed higher relative percentage survival (RPS) in groups or fishes fed with nanoparticles.

- Portable FRP Pabda Hatchery
Background
Fishes of genus Ompok, widely called as ‘butter catfish’, and in India and neighboring countries commonly known as ‘Pabda’ are valued medium-sized silurid catfish having high consumer preference and good market price in many parts of India, particularly, East and North East India. Among the Ompok species, because of relatively better growth and bigger attainable size, the Indian butter catfish Ompok bimaculatus is the most preferred species for culture, and hence have a great demand for the seed of this fish. However, availability of seed of O. bimaculatus is very limited, as there was no specific hatchery system for seed production of this fish. Though farmers are trying to produce seed of this fish using plastic tubs, temporary polythene pools or even using cemented structures, because of their low efficiency seed availability of this fish still very low. In this background, the fiberglass reinforced plastics (FRP) made portable Pabda Hatchery is first of its kind, developed specifically for induced seed production of pabda to increase the production and availability of pabda seeds. The ‘Portable FRP Pabda hatchery’ is a relatively low cost hatchery system and hence can be affordable even by the small farmers / seed producers. As pabda fishes have a very good demand in big states like West Bengal and Assam, and many other North-Eastern states, the product is anticipated to have a good market.
Technology Details
The major problem in adoption of pabda fish farming by the fish farmer is availability of pabda seed in required quantity. The ‘Portable FRP Pabda hatchery’ will help in addressing the issue of seed availability of Pabda. Using a single unit of the hatchery, 3 – 4 lakh nos. of 7-days old larvae of pabda can be produced in a breeding cycle, sufficient to cover about 15 ha water bodies (mixed pabda-culture system).

FRP Carp Hatchery
Background
Availability of quality seed was the major drawback in the context of Indian Aquaculture. Previously, breeding and hatching of carps were undertaken using bundhs, happas and recently by cement circular hatcheries. Once installed, the cement structured hatcheries can’t be shifted from place to place. It required large space for installation. The installation and operation cost were also high.
Technology Details
The innovation of portable FRP carp hatchery is adding a feather to blue revolution in the country by producing fish seed at the farmer’s field. The transportation of seed from different far off places to the farm site involving substantial cost is getting reduced by introduction of this hatchery. It is portable in nature. It requires less water during fish breeding and spawn production. It is easy to install, operate and repair. It needs less space for installation. It is less weight and the durability of the product is for 15 years. The system is so designed that it creates an environment suitable for fish breeding in the field condition for 10-12 kg of carps in single operation. In one run, 1.0-1.2 million spawn can be produced. This hatchery can also be used as a tool for fish biodiversity conservation. In lean season the system can be used for ornamental fish rearing, common carp breeding and water storing purpose.
